Quick facts about the Food Card:

  • The average benefit is $210 per household per month depending on income and family situation.
  • You may apply at any New York City Food Stamp Program office – some offices have weekend hours. Call 1-866-FOOD NYC (1-866-366-3692) for details.
  • You may be eligible even if you own a home or a car.
  • You may apply even if you have no income.
  • You do not have to be on public assistance to qualify but if you receive public assistance now without food stamps, you may be eligible. Contact your worker.
  • If you reside with your parent(s), are at least 22 years of age, and purchase and prepare your own food, you may be eligible for your own Food Card.
  • Working families and individuals may be eligible for the food stamps.
  • Even if you are currently unemployed, you should apply.
  • Now more immigrants are eligible for food stamps and can apply without fear. The following are examples of just a few of the immigrants who may be eligible:
  • Legal Permanent Residents (LPR): Children under18 years old and adults with five years LPR status
  • Individuals receiving disability benefits
  • Refugees and asylum grantees
  • Adults unable to document their legal status may apply on behalf of their qualified children
